History of Día de los muertos
Dia de muertos is celebrated throughout Mexico and the Catholic world. It was believed that on October 31st, the spirit of the deceased children are allowed to reunite with their families for 24 hours, and on November 2nd, the spirit of the adults come down to join the festivals prepared for them.
How it is celebrated
During the days of the dead, families take opportunities to visit the gravesite, pull out the weed, and clean debris and decorate the graves of the loved ones. Candles, flowers, and the favourite food of the deceased are brought to the graves of the loved ones. Altars are built with flowers and the food and trinkets the person loved when they were living. People even set up pillows and blankets for the spirit to rest after a long journey.
